Ducks Unlimited Salt Bayou Vegetative Planting
The Salt Bayou Vegetative Planting Project was conducted during the 2011 planting season. This project required the production of 75,000 2” containers or Spartina patens, Paspalum vaginatum and Distichlis spicata, and 75,000 bare root plugs and 4” containers of Spartina alterniflora. SWS utilized its nursery facility in Lake Charles, LA for the production or the required vegetation. During the installation phase of this project, SWS employed a crew of 20 men to install the project in less than four weeks. Airboats and four wheelers were used to transport the crew and vegetation throughout the 1,500 acre site. After two years of growth, the site stands as a model for coastal restoration along the Gulf Coast.
