NRCS CS-49 Vegetative Planting Project

Stream Wetland Services (SWS) contracted with the Natural Resources Conservation Services (NRCS) in 2012 to grow and install 27,500 trade gallon containers of Spartina alterniflora. The project is located in Cameron, LA to the east of Calcasieu Lake. SWS produced the vegetation at their licensed nursery facility then transported the plants to the project location. The project site consisted of open shallow water that was difficult to traverse. The majority of the plants were installed on 15’ centers which required a lot of effort to install each plant. With a 20 man crew and three airboats, SWS completed the planting in 12 days.
