NRCS LA-39 The Jaws Vegetative Planting Project
In the fall of 2014, Stream Wetland Services (SWS) contracted with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to grow and install 10,650 trade gallon containers of California bulrush (Schoenoplectus californicus). SWS utilized its nursery facility for the plant production phase of this project. The project is located near Franklin, LA on the east side of Vermillion Bay. The site consisted of submerged planting platforms with extremely soft substrates that made it difficult to traverse. SWS used a crew of 23 men along with four boats, a 120’ barge, and tug boat to transport and install the vegetation as per the project specifications. The project was completed on schedule and within 3 days.
