NRCS LA-39 The Prairie Vegetative Planting Project

In the spring of 2014, Stream Wetland Services (SWS) contracted with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to grow and install 13,040 trade gallon containers of California bulrush (Schoenoplectus californicus) and 525 trade gallon containers of Smooth Cordgrass (Spartina alterniflora). SWS utilized its nursery facility for the plant production phase of this project. The project is located in Manchac, LA. The site consisted of submerged planting platforms with extremely soft substrates that made it difficult to traverse. SWS used a crew of 14 men along with three boats to transport and install the vegetation as per the project specifications. The project was completed on schedule and within 4 days.
