NRCS LA-39 Willow Lake Vegetative Planting Project
In the fall of 2014, Stream Wetland Services (SWS) contracted with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to grow and install 17,367 trade gallon containers of California bulrush (Schoenoplectus californicus), 297 two gallon containers of California bulrush, and 297 two gallon containers of Roseau Cane (Phragmites australis). SWS utilized its nursery facility for the plant production phase of this project. The project is located in Grand Lake, LA north of Willow Lake. The site consisted of submerged planting platforms with extremely soft substrates that made it difficult to traverse. SWS used a crew of 23 men along with four boats to transport and install the vegetation as per the project specifications. The project was completed on schedule and within 6 days.
